Chris Schermer has written more than 300 songs. The wealth of material spans all popular styles and tempos. Some songs are in German but most are written in English. The songwriter and multi-instrumentalist has lived in England, Sweden, Australia and Austria. His musical education stands on 2 pillars:

The hard school of a street musician in Europe, America and Australia on one hand, and the well founded studies at the London Guitar Institute. Jazz singing at Vienna conservatory and Graz University of music.

Finally a scholarship at the Stella Academy Hamburg, Germany rounds of his academic studies.

“Out of the necessity to express something“ says Chris Schermer, music seemed the ideal vehicle. As a self taught guitar player-singer he already attained a certain amount of virtuosity at the age of 17. Stylistically he learned by listening to acoustic finger picking records, and recorded an album “Songs from the cellar” which is an acoustic cd with very stripped down arrangements and wonderful songs, the voice still sounding very innocent. One year before he released another long player. the CD “Behind the Shades” with more of a Band approach to the arrangements. This record was recorded to analogue tape. The title was inspired by a Bob Dylan biography.

For 6 years Chris Schermer toured with his band Chris Schermer & THE FONK and many euphoric Press articles portray an intense hard touring live act and reflect the quality of the band.

Not only with “Chris Schermer& THE FONK”, but also as a Solo artist the Austro/Australian Singer Songwriter played concerts all over Europe , also featured at the world renowned “Jazz festival Saalfelden “.

Schermer who is often said to have an optical likeness to the young Kurt Cobain, keeps walking down the musical path. Aside from his intense international touring he is working in his home studio on new songs, with an output of sometimes up to 2 – 3 songs a week.
